A'Court Bason, or Samuel A'Court Ashe Bason as he signs his paintings and some of his creative writing adventures, spends much time in "other places" to discover meaning for his work. Thoughtful meanderings find him connecting to "Muse or "Spirit". Seeking ways of sharing his findings various mediums are used; music, song writing, sketching, painting, creative and journal writing sometimes flow through his practiced hands. If you get a chance to spend time with one of his finished pieces, be it studying a painting, listening to a song, or reading an excerpt of his recent literature "Tiny Shrines: 13 cups" you may find yourself feeling soothed and maybe pulled to think differently. In a world of such diverse sound, tones pitch and color, seldom do we see someone reach in and present something so simple, different and pleasing to the senses. Though mostly self educated, A'Court was raised playing guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle with his mother Ruth in North Carolina and Virginia, and was influenced by several other creatively talented family members. Moving to Floyd when he was 12, A'Court gained much knowledge and inspiration from the natural surroundings found here. Becoming an instrument builder and playing music for many years, he ran an 8 track studio in the 1980's and 90's while helping raise his family at Travianna Farm (across the way) in Check, VA. Since 2000 his talents in painting with oils on canvas have grown exponentially, as is evident in the work shown in these select galleries. |
